Toyo to Complete Full Line-up of Si-6 Series All-electric Injection Molding Machines by Adding Small-sized Models Featuring High Precision Clamping Mechanism

Toyo Machinery & Metal Co., Ltd. (President and CEO : Santaro Katayama ; Akashi-city, Hyogo, Japan), an affiliate company of Hitachi, Ltd., has added six small-sized models to its Si-6 series all-electric injection molding machines and is starting to sell them on January 30.

The Si-6 series has been developed under a concept of "Smart Molding --- Powerful yet Simple Process Control", and its first three medium-sized models, 280-ton, 350-ton and 450-ton, were released in April, 2013, and three large-sized models, 680-ton, 850-ton and 950-ton, were added in July 2013.

The small-sized models to be released this time are the Si-50-6, Si-80-6, Si-100-6, Si-130-6, Si-180-6 and Si-230-6, having respective clamping force of 50 to 230 tons. As a distinctive feature, the 50 to 100-ton models are equipped with high accuracy mold clamping mechanism as standard.

The addition of these six small-sized models has completed the full line-up of the Si-6 series, which consists of 12 models ranging from 50 to 950-ton in clamping force.

 

Features of the Si-6 series in the small-sized range

1. Newly designed mold clamping mechanism
  • (1) High precision clamping mechanism (standard for Si-50-6 to Si-100-6)
    Among small models, especially 100-ton or smaller machines are often intended for high precision molding. The Si-50-6, Si-80-6 and Si-100-6 are equipped with newly designed high precision mold clamping mechanism as standard. These models employ linear guides to support the movable die-plate, so that the variation of the die-plates parallelism and wobbling during mold opening and closing motion can be suppressed by about 30%, compared with the equivalent model of the previous Si-V series produced in 2013. In addition, the machine frame below the mold clamping unit is further strengthened in rigidity, so that deflection of the machine frame can be suppressed by 30% or more on average of these three models. In case of the Si-80-6, the deflection of the machine frame is reduced by 54% at maximum, compared with its previous model of the Si-80V produced in 1983.
  • (2) Measures to accommodate complicated and larger molds
    Mold height extension (standard extension size), which was optional in the previous series, is standard for the models from the Si-100-6 to Si-230-6. And tie-bar clearance in vertical direction is increased by about 10% for the models from Si-50-6 to Si-130-6. These measures facilitate the mounting work of the mold that tends to be more complicated and larger for the machine size. You can also get more freedom in designing the mold.
  • (3) Downsizing
    Thanks to the new mold clamping unit structure, the total length of the machine is greatly reduced. In case of the Si-180-6, the machine is shortened by 152 mm, compared with the previous Si-180V produced in 2013.
  • (4) Optimum mold clamping mechanism, the V-clamp
    • (a) Thanks to the center press effect of the V-shaped mold clamping mechanism, called the V-clamp, the clamping force can be evenly applied to the mold. The V-clamp, jointly developed with Kyoto University, also realizes high speed mold opening and closing.
    • (b) The optimally designed die-plates, also developed under the collaboration with Kyoto University, are slim but have increased rigidity.
    • (c) The high speed ejector also contributes to high cycle molding.
2. Increased injection capability
  • (1) Increased injection performance
    Thanks to high speed response and increased control capability of the latest control system, SYSTEM 600, weight variation of the moldings can be reduced. In case of the Si-180-6, the weight variation is reduced by about 20%, compared with the previous model of the Si-180V produced in 2013.
  • (2) Multiple-choice of injection units for your specific molding needs
    Standard, high pressure, high speed, and super high speed injection units are available for each model, so that you can choose the best unit for your specific molding needs.
3. The latest control system, SYSTEM 600
  • The SYSTEM 600 control system is employed by these small-sized models as it has already been employed by medium-sized and large-sized models of the Si-6 series.

    (1) Easy-to-see and easy-to-operate 15-inch LCD touch panel
    • (a) The completely renewed grey-based screen design has greatly improved visibility.
    • (b) A 15-inch large touch panel has enhanced operability
    • (c) The lead-free LCD has an energy-saving LED back light, which is totally eco-friendly.
  • (2) Standardized safety requirement for global market
    Common safety requirement applicable to most of the global markets are prepared as standard, which minimizes alternation work for any specific requirement, resulting in shorter delivery time.
  • (3) High precision mold protection
    Toyo-developed HSP mold protection system detects subtle torque variations and makes the mold stop closing when anything is pinched so that damage to the mold can be prevented.
  • (4) Versatile diagnosis function
    • (a) Automatically recorded data is effective to easily pinpoint a cause at a time of trouble.
    • (b) Improperly-set molding conditions, if any, are automatically detected and a proper advice is displayed on the screen for the corrective action by the operator.
4. Increased energy-efficiency and eco-friendliness
  • (1) Heat-insulating heat barrel cover as standard
    All the models of the Si-6 series are equipped with a heat-insulating heat barrel cover as standard. Compared with the previous Si-280V produced in 2012, the Si-280-6 has reduced electric consumption by heaters by about 55% in molding ABS products.
  • (2) Numerical display of energy consumption
    Electric consumption is visualized owing to numerical display, which promotes the sense of energy saving. This system calculates electric consumption from a preset time point to a present time, and numerically display it either in accumulated total power consumption or in hourly power consumption. In addition, thanks to the conversion function, electric consumption can be displayed in the equivalent amount of electric bill (\ or US$) or emitted CO2 gas.
  • (3) Toyo's original grease for the machines to produce food containers
    The PLASTAR GREASE H1-2 is the grease Toyo has originally developed for the machines to produce sanitary-controlled products such as food containers. The H1-2 grease is certified as a "H-1 lubricant" *1 by the NSF International *2.
5. Increased ease of maintenance
  • (1) Plug-in connection of nozzle heater and thermocouple
    The nozzle heater and thermocouple are connected by plugs and sockets, so that replacement of heat barrels can be made easily.
  • (2) Easy-to-mount toggle cover
    The toggle cover mounting method is improved, and the number of cover-fixing bolts is reduced.
  • (3) Extended safety door opening
    Extended safety door opening stroke secures sufficient room for mold maintenance work.


Toyo prospects a total sale of 1,000 units of six models from the Si-50-6 through Si-230-6 in the first year.
